"If A Tree Falls" a documentary about former Wetlands Activism Collective and Earth Liberation Front activist Daniel McGowan, is playing at the IFC Center in Manhattan's West Village beginning on June 22nd, 2011. Daniel was active with Wetlands in the late nineties, working on efforts including our Home Depot and Mitsubishi campaigns.

An official selection of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and winner of the U.S. Documentary Editing Award, If a Tree Falls is a feature-length documentary that offers a behind-the-curtain look at the Earth Liberation Front (ELF), the radical environmental group that the FBI calls America's "number one domestic terrorist threat." The film tells the story of Daniel McGowan, an ELF member who participated in two multi-million-dollar arsons against Oregon timber companies. Described by Filmmaker Magazine as "an intriguing and important film,'If a Tree Falls' explores how a working class kid from Queens (the son of a New York cop who was a business major in college) found himself facing life in prison for 'eco-terrorism.'"

IF A TREE FALLS explores the transformation and radicalization of, Daniel McGowan, a NYC native who moved out West in the late 1990s to become involved with the Earth Liberation Front, a radical environment group that the FBI has called America?s ?number one domestic terrorism threat.?   The film interweaves a chronicle of McGowan facing life in prison with a dramatic investigation of the events that led to his involvement with the ELF.  Using never-before-seen archival footage and intimate interviews ? with cell members and with the prosecutor and detective who were chasing them ? IF A TREE FALLS asks hard questions about environmentalism, activism, and the way we define terrorism in America today.
